How you can express your views

Your views are important to us: we’re always keen to hear your questions, comments and concerns.

Speak with a Class teacher

Parents’ evenings are held three times a year – in the autumn, spring and summer terms. We encourage parents of all our pupils to keep in close contact with the school – it’s nearly always possible to speak with the class teacher for a moment or two after school, and a longer discussion can be arranged within a day or two. These meetings can be arranged if you have specific concerns or would like to know more about how to support your child. For example, following the Termly Report, you might like to arrange a meeting with your child’s class teacher to discuss some of the content of the report and how you can help your child.

Speak to the Head teacher

As well as speaking to the class teacher, Ms Morgan will provide you with an overview of your child’s learning (she is responsible for tracking the attainment and progress of all children in school) as well as talk about ways to support you and your child. She treats all feedback sensitively and appropriately – your feedback is one of the ways we can keep improving. You can contact Ms Morgan directly through the school office or email her at g.morgan@stmichaelsprimary.co.uk

Putting your views in writing

Every year we send out a short survey for parents / carers. The first section asks you to agree / disagree to a few statements – these relate to Ofsted inspection criteria and will be about teaching, learning, behaviour and safety, and leadership. There’s always space for you to express your views, too. The surveys can be returned to us unnamed, if you’d prefer.

Don’t wait until the annual survey, though! If you’ve got some feedback for us, we’d like to hear from you. You could email us at admin@st-michaels.essex.sch.uk.

Below are some comments that parents have made about our school:

"Thank you very much for your continued support that you have given to my child. I find it hard to think of another school that would have supported my child and our family in this way."

"I wanted to convey how impressed I was with yesterday afternoons LOLA that I attended. The children were very enthused by their subjects and enjoyed telling me about them"

"A simple Thank You doesn't seem to do justice to the way you have helped my family"

"Thank you so much for everything you have done for my children, they loved their time at St Michael's and will miss you all"

"My son loves this school and he has made excellent progress in all areas and has such a great relationship with his teacher."

"All the children that we come across say thank you and hold doors open."

"Thank you for all the support you have given our children throughout the years."

Contact Ofsted

Parent View gives you the chance to tell Ofsted what you think about St Michael's Primary. It asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of school, from the quality of teaching to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. By sharing your views, you’ll be helping us to improve – we’ll aim to keep doing the things you praise and sort out the things you don't like. Please remember that if your feedback is specific to your own child, it might be better to contact someone at school so we can respond quickly and specifically to help your child.

At the Parent View website, you’ll also be able to see what other parents have said about St Michael's Primary (and, if you want to, view the results for any school in England).

Communications

Your questions, comments or concerns are often answered in our communications. The school produces a weekly Newsletter. The newsletters contains important information about events that are going on in the school. Paper copies of the Newsletter are located in the school foyer. This is in addition to letters which are sent home whenever there is important news.

We send home paper copies of essential communications. However, we increasingly use other ways to communicate. There are various ways for you to receive our news and updates electronically. We use ParentPay to send emails and to text – contact the school office if you don’t yet benefit from communications using ParentPay. We also use Class Dojo to send messages and share events/learning experiences that have taken place at school. Please note, staff are only able to reply to Dojo messages between the hours of 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday during term time.

Making a Complaint

We have an open culture. Staff are nearly always available – it’s easy to have a quick chat with teachers or the headteacher so most concerns or complaints are dealt with quickly. However, if parents feel that they need to make a formal complaint, it should be made in writing to the Headteacher, who will investigate and give a response. If parents remain dissatisfied, they can appeal to the Chair of Governors. The case will then be reviewed by a Governors’ Panel and a final response given. A copy of the school's complaints procedure can be found on within the Policies section.
