Our learning in the summer term

English

We will be learning the story of ‘The Storm Whale’. We will use this to innovate our own finding story which focuses on describing character and setting.

We will then be writing a non-chronological report based on our learning about whales and marine life.

Maths

We will be focusing on multiplication and division which includes counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and finding doubles within 20. We will also be learning to find halves and quarters of shapes and numbers as part of our fractions topic. We will handle money and learn common coin and note denominations, in addition to learning about days, months and telling the time to 30 minutes.

Topic

In Science, we will be learning about plants and trees. We will be observing plants and trees in their local environment and growing our own plants in class. Additionally, we will complete some weather observations and investigate the characteristics of the summer season.

In Geography, we will be focusing on the physical features of the seaside and we have an exciting class trip planned to Walton-on-the-Naze.

In History, we will be learning about seaside holidays in Victorian times and who the Victorians were, as well as comparing holidays in the past and now.

In D&T, we will be making our own healthy dessert involving a variety of fresh fruit!
