Our learning in the Autumn term

English

We will be learning the story of ‘How to catch a star’. We will use this to innovate our own wishing story which focuses on sentence construction.

We will then be writing non-fiction instructions based on our learning of 'How to catch a fairy'.

Maths

We will be focusing on place value within ten, which explores counting on from a given number, counting backwards, recognising one more, more less, using a numberline and identifying greater than, less than and equals to. We will also be learning about addition and subtraction, exploring part whole models and number bonds. We will finish the term learning about both 2-D and 3-D shapes.

Topic Stories from around the world

In Science, we will be learning about animals including humans. We will be exploring a variety of common animals including fish, amphians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We will also explore animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Finally we will identify and label basic parts of the human body and explore our senses.

In Geography, we will be focusing on naming and locating the world's seven continents and five oceans using maps, atlases and globes.

  •

In History, we will be learning about significant historical events such as Humpty Dumpty (Colchester wall) and Amelia Earheart

  •

In Art, we will be exploring paint to create artwork based on the painting the 'Starry night'.
