Our School Day

The school day starts at 8.50 am and finishes at 3.05 pm.

Morning Playtime

At 10.30 am, children in Year 1 to Year 6 have a short break from their learning.  Children are invited to bring in a piece of fruit to eat during this break.

Reception children do not have a formal break as they are involved in continuous provision throughout the day;this means that children can choose to carry out their learning either indoors or outdoors. Towards the end of the school year children will start to experience the more formal Key Stage 1 breaks.

Lunch

Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 have their lunch between 11.50 and 1.00 pm. Children in Key Stage 2 have their lunch between 12.10 and 1.00 pm.
During lunchtime the Anti Bullying League are responsible for the activity container, where all children are invited to borrow equipment to play with.  Year 6 Play Leaders also lead organised games during this time.

Afternoon Playtime

Children in Key Stage 1 have a short break at sometime during the afternoon.

Drop off and Collection

At the beginning and end of the school day, parents are encouraged into the playground. This helps to build up a close relationship between home and school – we want to have good links with all parents.  If normal arrangements have to be altered (eg you are delayed or another person is collecting your child), please let us know.  This avoids any confusion or upset.

Getting to School

To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. We have a lockable bike shelter at the school.  We actively promote biking to school and there are a number of competitions/initiatives throughout the school year. If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely.

School security

The staff and governors at St Michael's are fully committed to maintaining the safety of the children and the security of the building. The school building has an alarm system and all possible measures are taken to ensure that access to the school is monitored. All visitors are requested to report to the school office and sign the visitor’s book. All exterior doors have security locks to restrict public access. The main school building has a coded entry system.

Accessibility

We have two toilets, along with an electronic hoist, with changing facilities for children up to the age of 11 years.  We also have a  shower , which is housed in our Nursery class.  The whole school is disability compliant, with no steps on any entry points into the school.  A designated disabled parking place has been provided in the staff car park. If you have any comments or queries with regards to disability access please do pop into the school office.
